The Soul

Salam alayk. It's been a while since I've posted anything here. SOOCA next week! Just a short note though.

This is an excerpt from Saydul Khaatir, one of my favorite books.
Captured Thoughts.
Have you ever tried to capture them?
This blog and few others are my way to capture my thoughts... my deepest thoughts, are kept for myself though.
This book, for me, transcends all biographies. Not many scholars have written their thoughts, at least not that I know of ( which is a lot, meaning a lot that I don't know )
Reading it is really a potion for the soul.

The Soul Between the Enchantment of the Dunyaa and that of the Hereafter

When listening to a sermon or preaching, one’s heart may become vigilant but once one has left the gathering where Allaah is being mentioned, hardness and inattentiveness returns! Reflecting upon the reason for this sudden change, I realised what it was. I noticed that people vary when it comes to this (i.e. the effect of preaching on them).

Generally speaking the heart does not assume the same level of alertness during the preaching and after for two reasons:
Firstly: Preaching is like whipping which leaves no pain, but it hurts only while being whipped. Secondly: During the sermon, the listener normally has nothing to distract his attention. Mentally and physically setting aside worldly matters and listening whole heartedly. Then once back to the worldly life, he will be attracted by its allurements.

How then could one remain in the same state as prior to the sermon? This state of affairs happens to all humanity. However, this affect does vary with those who listen with their hearts. Some of them are unhesitatingly callous to what goes on around them.

If they are visited by life’s hustle and bustle, they become self conscious, as Hanzalah (the companion, radiya Allahu ‘anh) said about himself: “Hanzalah is a hypocrite…” [in a Hadeeth related by Muslim]

Some others tend to be of a more forgetful character. Sometimes though they excel (in good deeds) after listening to a sermon.

In fact, such people are like stalks that sway with the wind!
Others are but little affected; the effect on their hearts lasts only for the period of the sermon. It soon disappears, just like water when poured on a smooth rock!

~~~~~~~~~~~
Deep, no?
Life is a quest. A quest for meaning. But like Ustaz Hasrizal wrote in his blog,
'Is there Khidir to explain to us the wisdom of everything we face in life?'
[open Surah al-Kahfi if you don't know what I mean]
There is always a reason behind everything. Always. Nothing that happens is ever futile, if Allah led us to them...
If we put dunya as our barometer, we'll never truly find happiness. Those words above, sometimes feels like a stab in the heart, for truth very rarely doesn't hurt. The question is, when we stare at the truth right in the eye, can we recognise it?
Me? Still searching, insyaAllah...
Biiznillah~
Reminder for the soul
“Aku hairan dengan orang yang mengetahui kematian, tapi mengapa ia masih tertawa;
Aku hairan dengan orang yang tahu bahawa dunia adalah sementara, tapi mengapa ia sangat mencintainya;
Aku hairan dengan orang yang mengetahui semua urusan telah ditakdirkan, tapi mengapa ia takut kehilangan;
Aku hairan dengan orang yang mengetahui bahwa hisab adalah suatu kepastian, tapi mengapa ia tetap mengum
pulkan harta dan menghitung-hitungnya;
Aku hairan dengan orang yang mengetahui panasnya api neraka, tapi mengapa ia tetap berbuat dosa;
Aku hairan dengan orang yang mengaku mengenal Allah, tapi mengapa ia meminta tolong kepada selain-Nya;
Aku hairan kepada orang yang mengaku mengetahui kenikmatan syurga, tapi mengapa ia merasa hidup tenang di dunia;
Dan aku hairan kepada orang yang mengetahui syaitan adalah musuhnya, tapi mengapa ia mentaatinya.”
